The Machinist’s Union and your Local Lodge joined thousands of demonstrators on Parliament Hill to protest the loss of 33,000 manufacturing sector jobs in Quebec between January and February 2007. This slaughter adds to the 100,000 manufacturing sector jobs already lost since November 2002; making Quebec the most affected by the job losses in Canada. (For all of Canada, there were around 270,000 jobs lost.) The demonstrators also protested the Government’s inertia; they have taken no measures against this major crisis. These are jobs with average salaries of $20.68 hourly which are disappearing, contributing to the general impoverishment of the economy.
The QFL called to an economic summit of the manufacturing
sector with the Canadian Labour Congress demands that the
Harper Government act urgently on the question. |
